It's amazing how some women think they are above the law and and they should live by different laws than men. I know of a woman. She owes more than $4,000 in back child support and she keeps getting over. She was even charged with contempt of court and the judge in Carbon County did not give her jail time. It's amazing that there are such double standards. This is so unfair. There should be equal justice for all. It should not matter what your genital organ is.

I agree with you 100%. I have a friend that was behind in his child support and went to court on a custody matter. He had a check with him and they wouldn't accept the check and they threw him in jail until someone came with a cash deposit. It is sad how there are different sets of rules depending upon your gender. I guess the judges out here have not familiarized themselves with the bill of rights. If you have t & a you can do whatever you want out here. Isn't Pennsylvania the state the constitution was signed in. I gather the law makers in PA. need to read up on how the law should be applied fairly and equally.

I need to chime in. My husband was divorced from his first wife and had custody of two children. The ex-wife was ordered to pay support. In the end, she owed about $15,000 in back support. We got a letter a few months back from the child support enforcement stating that since they can't find her, and since HE HAD NOT BEEN ON WELFARE, they would no longer enforce the collection of the arrears. So, she hid long enough and now owes nothing. Aint that a kick in the ass!

It just shows that there is no equal justice. When my husband was behind in his child support his daughter's mother refused to allow him to see his daughter for two years. He was not nearly as far behind as she currently is with her children that live in Michigan. It ticks me off because of her bull it has severely effected my husband's relationship with his daughter. We have had to work extremely hard to rebuild his relationship with her. When he starting having his daughter again the child had no clue that he was her father. She thought her mother's live in boy friend was her dad. The sad part is she is a dead beat mom in every respect not just in paying child support for her children but also how she cares for the kids right here in Monroe County.

Just because they will not enforce it doesn't mean she doesn't owe it. A civil case might get some of it or liens against her might make her life miserable for a while.

Logically speak it would make sense to sue someone civilly. However, that works when someone has some sort of collateral or income to put a lien against. In this current case the woman does not work. When she did get a job she managed to get herself fired in less than two weeks. Therefore, your logic will not work in this case. This is simply just a case inequity. I am a woman and I am saying that it would be handled differently if a man was the one that owed.

A person can file a lien against another for future income, holdings and belongings. One does not have to "have stuff" in order to have a lien against them. A lien itself could be potentially harmful while it shows up ones SS# and credit reports. If the woman is married and files joint returns, that lien will also show up on her husbands SS# although he is not responsible-but would not be a good addition.

One can do it themselves rather than hire an attorney. It's really all not that difficult. Get the proper from from any attorney, fill in all the blanks, have it notarized and file it with the Prothonotary at the court of Common pleas in Stroudsburg. Than, wait a time with some patience, usually 30 days and if gone unanswered you file a motion, (usually a letter will suffice) for judgment. It's pretty simple.

Sometimes simple instruments like this will get others to do the right thing. Sometimes not but than they have to live with the repercussions of having bad credit.

I agree, it doesn't matter what your gender is, all people who do not pay support should be treated the same and if that means going to jail, so be it.

I was in the situation where they were going to close my child support case against the father of the child I am raising. They sent me a letter saying that they could not locate him, that he was one of the few that can "stay under the radar" and that the case would be closed, all warrants dropped and all back child support elimated. They said something about it is a new federal law that allows them to do this. I was furious, but luckily the dumb@ss got caught about 2 weeks before the case was to be closed. My understanding is part of this is because if the Domestic Relations office does not close a certain number of cases then they lose funding. Figures. You can file a lien against them, but most of the people that are able to avoid paying child support also avoid paying taxes, holding a regular job, and never buy a home or a car that can be financed and a lien placed on it. JMO
