The opposition should oppose mere opportunism, which comes in two forms. One is presenting pet projects hitherto considered unworthy of funding, as suddenly meritorious because somehow stimulative. The other attaches major and nongermane policy changes to the stimulus legislation, counting on the need for speed to allow them to escape appropriate scrutiny. For example:

The stimulus legislation would create a council for Comparative Effectiveness Research. This is about medicine but not about healing the economy. The CER would identify (this is language from the draft report on the legislation) medical "items, procedures, and interventions" that it deems insufficiently effective or excessively expensive. They "will no longer be prescribed" by federal health programs. The next secretary of health and human services, Tom Daschle, has advocated a "Federal Health Board" similar to the CER, whose recommendations "would have teeth": Congress could restrict the tax exclusion for private health insurance to "insurance that complies with the Board's recommendation." The CER, which would dramatically advance government control — and rationing — of health care, should be thoroughly debated, not stealthily created in the name of "stimulus."

Democrats are going to ram through their pork projects and run up the largest deficit in the history of America...and they will do it all under the guise of 'stimulus'.

It tells of Bush's budget deficit death spiral. This is two years before the Dems took control of congress. It shows how Reagan and Bush Sr. created the worst recession since the great depression. It goes on to explain how Clinton produced the longest sustained economic expansion in American history, only to have it crippled by a mental midget named Dubya.

Now I realize your not capable of reading this on your own. Just get someone to read it for you. They can simplify the larger words and maybe put it into the context of selling worms so you could more easily comprehend it.

about the deficits. Note that the deficit has risen every year under every president. if obama spends like he plans - his deficit will be even bigger. so what was the point of the link?

As I've mentioned, the deficit contemplated by Obama is the Mother of all Deficits.

As pointed out above, this is Obama's first year. His remaining three years will doubtless have even larger deficits as the economy crumbles under Democrat taxation and out of control government spending.

The first six years of Bush's term were prosperous and economically healthy...despite fighting two wars (to keep your simple ass safe) and multiple natural disasters.

The only disaster we currently face is complete Democrat control of Washington.

We are off to a fine start, and it's just the beginning!
