The Pocono Environmental Education Center (P.E.E.C) offers a unique, hands-on “natural” educational experience for students, teachers, scouts, individuals, families, youth, senior citizens and anyone else who loves the great outdoors. PEEC’s mission is to enhance environmental awareness, knowledge and appreciation through hands-on experience in a natural outdoor classroom. The center offers residential and day programs that provide insight into the natural world surrounding us.
Visitors are busy at PEEC exploring rolling fields for wildflowers and birds, canoeing on PEEC’s ponds, learning about local wildlife, hiking through cool hemlock forests and photographing beautiful waterfalls.
At PEEC, parents and children enjoy the unique opportunity to share the joys of nature together as a family during Family Nature Getaways. Students and educators that visit PEEC throughout the year learn how the importance of preserving natural resources and they have the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature up close.
Overnight accommodations are in one-room cabins with private bathrooms that sleep between 4 to 14 people. PEEC also has group lodges that sleep up to 80 people and a new Yurt Village, with 8 Yurts that sleep from 8-12 people. Yurts are a cross between a geodesic dome and a luxury safari tent and provide a more comfortable night’s sleep compared to conventional tenting. The Yurts have bunk beds, heat, and electricity. A bathhouse is adjacent to the village for Yurt guests. PEEC’s cabins and Yurt village are available to individuals that are participating in PEEC programs. Group tenting is also available in its tent platform area. Meals are served buffet-style at the dining hall.
PEEC’s 38-acre campus is located within the beautiful Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area near mile marker 8 off of Route 209. PEEC is close to home, where learning comes naturally! Visit PEEC on the web at www.peec.org.
