BULGARIAN PIZZA: IMMIGRATION AND EXTRA CHEESE
The owner of the Old Mill Run Pizzeria in Sciota is currently fighting to save his wife from deportation. Zekri and Rukie Paputchi have been in the United States for over 16 years, 11 of those years have been here in Monroe County. They've learned English and they pay their taxes. Both of their young children have been born here and go to school locally. They left Bulgaria to escape heavy persecution for being Muslim by a communist regime. When Zekri first arrived in the United States he filed for political asylum -- which means an individual can seek refuge from political or religious persecution in another country. Throughout the 1990's, they attended many hearings and meetings to update their legal status. Currently, the Paputchi's lawyer (Theodore Murphy of Klasco, Rulon, Stock & Seltzer of Philadelphia), appealed the current ruling and urges the community to write letters of support to the immigration officials handling the case.

Letters must be sent to:

Attorney Ted Murphy
Klaso, Rulon, Stock & Seltzer Attorneys at Law
1800 JFK Blvd, Suite 1700
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Please mention the following things in your support letter:

1) her name: Rukie Paputchi

2)case #: A70-903-825

3) mention that Zekri Paputchi is eligible to apply for permanent residency through a 1996 act called the Nicaraguan Adjustment & Central American Relief Act.
Rukie would also be eligible for this through her husband.

Also, please contact your local elected official (congressman, senator, state representative, etc) involving immediate action with this case

Did you know that the public can privately sponsor a bill that will support this family and go against the deportation? We are currently looking into it.
